Heading to Blooming Prairie today, the Mankato Loyola/Cleveland track & field team is coming off meets in Lake Crystal, Janesville and St. James.
Lake Crystal
On the Lake Crystal track on April 15, the Crusader boys took third place with 104.75 points. Jackson County Central won the meet with 137 points. River Valley was second with 130.75. LCWM/Nicollet was fourth with 93.75, GFW was fifth with 55.75, and GHEC/T/ML was sixth with 30 points.
With 76.5 points, the Crusader girls were fourth. Host LCWM/Nicollet won the meet with 168 points. JCC was second with 160.5, River Valley was third with 84, GFW was fifth with 59, and GHEC/T/ML was sixth with six points.
Boys:
Crossing the finish line in 61.98, Elijah Mons took ninth in the 400. TJ Waldron was fourth in the 1600 with a 5:13.5.
Carter Kern led off the 10th place 4x100. Also in that quartet were Clark Streeter, Lex Streeter and Joe Lyons. They finished the race in 62.98. The 4x400 team of Chase Kijenski, Jack Green, Waldron and Tate Rachow took fourth place with a 3:56.96 finish. The 4x800 team of Soren Kelly, Waldron, Sam Vetter and Mitchell Bulboltz finished second with a 9:09.79.
Kijenski took first in the 300 with a 43.09. Vetter won the 3200 with a PR 10:31.71.
Oliver Starke threw the shot put 24-07.5 and the discus 45-02. Kern long jumped 9-08. Thayne Remiger tripled jumped a PR 37-09.25 for second place. Mons triple jumped 29-05.50.
Girls:
Ava Hahn beat 40 other 100-m dash runners to win the race with a 13:09 while Samantha Baker ran a 17.13. Aubrey Blaschko was 13th in the 200 with a 31.24 while Baker was 27th with a 36.76. Miah Bauer was 13th in the 400 with a 75.57 while Shardaisha Faulkner was 17th with a 76.69. With a 2:27.56 finish, Savannah Meyer was faster than the other 16 runners to win the 800. Charlotte Meyer beat out 15 runners to win the 1600 with a 5:24.39.
The 4x100 team of Charlotte Maxfield, Sammy Kann, Mylie Krenik and Aryah Zuehlke took second place with a 57.17 while the team of Gabby Bemmels, Faulkner, Morgan Dimmel and Sabella Braulick was sixth with a 59.80. The 4x200 team of Hahn, Maddie Cooney, Titoluwani Ehinmowo and Lea Taylor was second with a 1:58.14 while the quartet of Kailyn Hecksel, Kaylin Van Loon, Taryn Hecksel and Bauer was sixth with a 2:11.19 finish.
The 4x400 team of Maddie Hurias, Lily Phillips, Savannah Meyer and Charlotte Meyer was third with a 4:37.06 finish. The 4x800 team of Teya Waagner, Charlotte Meyer, Savannah Meyer and Endres took first with a 10:42.15.
Hurias won both hurdle events.
Janesville
In cold, windy weather, eight teams competed at Janesville on April 10. With 117.5 points, the Crusaders took second behind Maple River (157.5). Rounding out the field were LCWM/Nicollet (108), JWP (101), WEM (83), St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran (53), Mt. Lake Area/Comfrey (44) and GHEC/T/ML (13).
With the same number of points the Crusader boys totaled, the Loyola-Cleveland girls also took second place. With 157 points, JWP won the meet. SC/IL was third (110), Maple River was fourth (93.5), LCWM/Nicollet was fifth (79), WEM was sixth (72), MLA/Comfrey was seventh (28), and GHEC/T/ML was eighth (21).
Boys:
With a 34:00 finish, Starke was 25th in the 200. Mons was ninth in the 400 with a 1:00.95 PR finish. Waldron was fourth in the 1600 with a PR 5:12.05. Waldron also ran anchor in the first place 4x800 team, which also included Kelly leading followed by Vetter and then Bubboltz. Their 9:04.54 was just shy of 17 seconds faster than the silver team.
Kern tossed the discus 66-0 for 19th place. Remiger high jumped 5-2 to tie for sixth place, long jumped 17-0 for eighth place and triple jumped 34-6.75 for sixth place. Kern long jumped 11-6, and Mons long jumped 9-8.
Girls:
With a 13:34 finish, Hahn beat out 29 competitors to win the 100 while Bauer was 11th with a 14.51. With a 1:19.55 finish, Bauer took 13th in the 400 while Baker was 19th with a 1:26.98. Charlotte Meyer took first in the 3200 with a 11:27.73 finish and was second in the 1600 with a 5:25.04. Her sister Savannah Meyer was third in the 1600 with a 5:30.58. Hurias won the 200 with a 28.06 while Blaschko came in 13th of the 28 runners with a 31.06. Hurias won the 100-m hurdles.
The quartet of Philips, Taylor, Savannah Meyer and Endres won the 4x800 with an 11:35.57 finish. The 4x100 team of Kann, Braulick, Krenik and Zuehlke was fifth in the 4x100 with a 1:00.49. The 4x200 team of Bemmels, Faulkner, Zuehlke and Taryn Hecksel took sixth with a 2:11.64. The 4x400 team of Huiras, Cooney, Taylor and Hahn finished third with a 4:39.53.
Liviana Lee, back after an injury, long jumped 12-8 for 10th place. Krenik triple jumped 23-11.5 for 15th place.
St. James
Eight teams competed at the St. James meet on April 8. With 130 points, Minnesota Valley Lutheran edged the Crusader boys by three points. St. James/Madelia was third with 111 points. Rounding out the field were TCU (85), Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (76), GFW (72), Martin County West/Butterfield-Oden (35) and GHEC/T/ML (23).
With 103.5 points, the Crusader girls came in a respectable third. TCU won the meet with 147 points. MVL was second with 139. Rounding out the field were St. James/Madelia (90.5), Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (71.5), GFW (59), MCW/BO (32) and GHEC/T/ML (16.5).
Boys:
Kern competed in the 100-m dash and was 30th with a 15.77. Mons was sixth in the 400 with a 1:03.19. Kelley won the 3200. Waldron was fifth with an 11:30.43 finish.
The 4x100 team of Lyons, Clark Streeter, Lex Streeter and Starke was 12th with a 1:03.77 finish. With an 8:56.32 finish, the 4x800 team of Waldron, Kelly, Buboltz and Green took first. The second-place team was over 8.27 seconds behind.
Starke threw the shot put 21-1 Kern winged the discus 50-4. With a 5-6 leap, Remiger took third in the high jump. The winner cleared 5-8. Mons long jumped 15-3 for 11th place. Kern long jumped 10-10.5. Mons triple jumped 32-2.5.
Vetter won the 3200. Kijenski won the 300-m hurdles.
Girls
With a 15.02 finish, Krenik was 13th of 37 100-m runners. Baker was 34th with a 18.03. Faulkner was 20th in the 400 with a 1:18.32.
Savannah Meyer was second in the 800 with a 2:29.88. She was less than two seconds behind the winner. But the places were reversed in the 1600 with Meyer coming in first with a PR 5:27.23, 7.63 seconds faster than the second-place runner. Meanwhile her sister Charlotte dominated the 3200 with a PR 11:24.12. The second-place finisher was over a minute and 23 seconds behind. With a 1:16.99 finish, Blaschko was 15th of 27 400-m runners.
Huiras won both the 100-m hurdles (16.15) and 300-m hurdles (48.20, PR). Vivian Hilfer was ninth of 18 competitors in the 300-m hurdles with a 1:01.36. It was her first time competing in that event.
With a 59.27 finish, the 4x100 team of Bauer, Ava Evenson, Taylor and Ehinmowo was sixth of 13 teams. The quartet of Maxfield, Kailyn Hecksel, Baker and Taryn Hecksel was 13th in that event. The 4x200 team of Hahn, Cooney, Dimmel and Kann was fourth with a 2:04.85 finish. The 4x200 team of Faulkner, Kailyn Hecksel, Braulick and Blaschko was ninth with a 2:16.25 finish. The 4x400 team of Huiras, Cooney, Savannah Meyer and Hahn was second with a 4:29.23.
Hilfer high jumped 4-2 for 12th place. Charlotte Meyer pole vaulted 6-0 for ninth place. Krenik triple jumped 25-2.5 for 17th place.
