Bode Bartell drive

Taking advantage of their size and strength to rebound and score inside, Le Sueur-Henderson topped the visiting Clipper B boys 55-23 on Tuesday.

It was the season finale for the Clippers.

The Giants posted the first four points. Gavin Karels put in a three from behind the top of the arc to get the Clippers on the scoreboard. After a Bode Bartell three, the Clippers trailed 9-6.

Cutting diagonally through the lane, Alex Johnson took a Bartell handoff in for a basket and an 13-8 score. Bartell (above) stole and drove from shore to shore for the next Clipper bucket and then assisted Johnson again, this time with a jumper from the paint.

Mason Kluntz put in a couple of free shots, but that was it for the Clipper scoring in the first half, and, after Nathan Strobel left the game with a hip injury, the Clippers were down 31-14 at the break.

After the Giants put in the first bucket of the second half, Johnson hit the back end of two foul shots, Karels put in the first of two from the charity line, and Jordan Schmidt, saved for the second half, made a basket from the floor.

But from there, the Giants went on a 20-point run that was finally broken up when Schmidt rebounded and scored from under the rim.

Up three steps from his seventh-grade team, Garrett Heldberg plopped in a free throw, and Schmidt made two free throws with less than two seconds remaining, but that was all the offense the Clippers could muster.

Schmidt scored six points in the effort. Bartell had a three and a two in the first half for five total points. Johnson also added five points. With a three and a free shot, Karels contributed four points. Kluntz put in two free throws for two total points. Heldberg chipped in a free shot.

The Clippers were seven of 12 from the free throw line. The Giants had one three and made two thirds of their 15 free shots.
