Second grade class with small blankets

A dozen tied fleece blankets made by Clara Wieser’s second-grade class (above) last week will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Their work was for the Mighty Myles blanket drive, a project sponsored by the Mighty Myles Superhero Network, an organization Ashley and Mike Genelin created to provide support to families of children in hospice and with chronic illnesses.

Ashley Genelin teaches English learners (EL) and special education at Cleveland school.

“We chose to do the small tie blankets because those are for preemies,” said Wieser.

The Genelins' son Myles Genelin was born with cardiofaciocutaneous, or CFC syndrome, a rare disorder that affects many parts of the body. On May 6, 2020, after a courageous battle, he passed away from the disease at age three.

“This drive keeps his memory alive and helps those families with similar circumstances,” Wieser said.

“It is good to donate to help others,” said Lane Genelin, whose younger brother was Myles and was one of Wieser’s students who made the blankets.
