Kid bags an Easter egg

In an annual rite of spring, dozens of kids participated in Cleveland’s annual Community Education Easter egg hunt on Tuesday.

It took less than 30 seconds for the youngsters to gather the hundreds of plastic eggs scattered around the floor of the new gym.

“It’s controlled chaos,” said Community Education Coordinator Rich Kern. “They get pretty excited for it. I was talking to (preschool teacher) Lynell Rohlfing, and she said the kids have been anticipating it.”

There were zones marked off for five age groups up to sixth grade. Kids waited as Kern counted down the start. Each kid got to bag eight eggs.

Seven eggs held a golden ticket. Kids who found the tickets received a large Easter basket filled with toys and candy. Every kid could take home a gift bucket with smaller prizes: pencils and a few pieces of candy.

As usual, the Easter bunny was on hand to greet kids and pose for photos, and the PTO got involved, serving food in the commons.

While the egg hunt has been inside for a while, Kern hopes to get it back outdoors if the weather is cooperative.
