Like a 300 in bowling or a no hitter in baseball, a perfect score of 50 is the epitome of success for trap shooters.
And senior Marty Gibbs (above) achieved it at the Caribou Gun Club on Wednesday when he didn’t miss a single target in competition week four.
“When I got the first 25, I was happy because it was my second 25 of the year,” said the senior. “When I started the second round, the most essential thing in my mind was to stay focused.”
Gibbs did keep dialed in, sometimes just glancing the flying clays with a few of his 12-guage shot and other times, right on the mark, breaking the discs into fragments.
But he put an exclamation point on the round when he pulverized clay number 50.
“I was getting nervous. It’s a mind game and not always completely about stance. I was happy after I completed it. It was my main goal, and now I will have to set a new one for the state shoot: 75 or 100-straight.”
The average score of 33.8 among the Clippers was down 2.4 points from a week ago.
Kaden Schmidt and Nick Simonette were right behind Gibbs with 47s. With a 45, Judd Gibbs trailed his brother by five points .
Dakota Alitz shot a 44. With a 43, Brunson Gibbs had his best effort of a the season. Noah Hermel also shot a 43.
Reid Knish, Tanner Simonette and Riley Kriha all brought down 42 neon orange discs. Colton Tousley and Chase Bock each shot 41s. Gabe Sullivan broke up 40 clays.
With 38s were Max Esser and Dylan Zimmerman. Upping his score by eight, Zimmerman had the biggest improvement from a week ago.
Jake Mueller shot a 36. Austin Anderley, Caleb Possin, Derek Miller and Nathan Seeman all scored 35s.
Cole Stocker shot a 34, Gauge Bock and Zayden Linder scored a 33, and Aiden Giese and Jeremy Miller each connected with 32 targets. Henry Boelter shot a 31.
With 30s were Tanyon Hoheisel and his younger brother Urijah Hoheisel, Charlie Maxfield and Greyson Tomaszewski.
Blake Gibbs scored a 29. John Ritchie, Kendra Zimmerman and Zander Hoechst all scored a 28.
