Addi Holden hit

It was a good week for the B/JV volleyball girls as they topped Valley Conference teams Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday and Nicollet on Thursday.

Starting the night as the JV team, the Clippers won the first game at Lake Crystal 25-22. Addi Holden hit down a winner for point 23. The Knights scored twice, hit out of bounds, scored again on a kill and then hit into the net. Game two timed out with the Knights up 7-5.

Holden had three kills. Taylor McCabe had eight kills and a pair of digs. Keira Schipper had two kills. Lilly Lamont assisted 14 points, had two kills of her own and dished four ace serves. Maya Lassiter had three kills. Luci Blaschko had one kill, six digs and four ace serves. Olivia Shouler had one dig. Valentina Rohlfing had one dig.

Schipper’s roll over was the first point of the first B game. Neither team consistently kept hits and serves in fair territory early on, but Anika Sathoff’s kill deadlocked the game 7-7 and was the first point of a Clipper streak of five, which also featured a Maile Meissner ace block.

The Clippers still led 11-9 after hitting twice into the net, but they followed with a 11-point run that featured a pair Meisner kills, a couple of Sathoff ace serves, and a hat trick of kills from  McCabe. The game ended 25-13 on a McCabe ace tip.

With McCabe pushing the ball into some open space, the Clippers took a 3-0 lead in game two. Schipper scored on a kill, but the Knights rallied to pull within one, 6-5.

The teams alternated short runs after that. Valentina Rohlfing’s kill put the Clippers in front 9-8. After Katelyn Flowers swatted a kill and Rohlfing scored on an ace push she followed with an ace block, the Clippers led 12-8 before the Knights took advantage of four Clipper errors to tie the game 12-12.

With kills by McCabe, Jocelyn Kortuem and Flowers, the Clippers were in front 21-16, but the Knights surged for seven-straight points to pull ahead by one. But with a Meissner ace block followed by a pair of LCWM miss hits, the Clippers won 25-23.

The Knights scored nine of the first dozen points in game three, but McCabe put down a hit, and Meissner posted an ace block in a nine-point run that put the Clippers up 12-9. The Knights scored on an ace tip and a Clipper hit out of bounds, but after a McCabe kill, the game timed out with the Clippers in front 13-11.

McCabe had four kills and four digs. Sathoff, only playing in the first game, had two kills. Delaney Thompson, also only playing in the first game, had one kill and nine set assists. Amelia Chmiel had one dig.

Against visiting Nicollet, Miessner kills were the book ends to game one. Trailing 14-9, the Raiders went on a four-point spurt, but Holden struck for a kill, Mariah McCabe served a couple of aces, and Schipper scored on an ace bump and an ace serve, and the Clippers scored eight out of the next 10 points before they triumphed 25-18.

Game two started with a Holden kill. Later, Schipper rolled the ball over for a winner, and Taylor McCabe tipped over an ace and then served two aces to contribute to a 9-1 Clipper advantage.

Later, a pair of winners off the hands of Holden put the Clippers in front 18-14. Schipper served an ace, and with a Sathoff kill down the stretch, the Clippers won the game 25-19 on a serve out of bounds.

With a pair of Kortuem service aces and a Blaschko back-row kill, the Clippers led game three 8-1. Rohlfing and Shouler added kills, and Shouler served up a pair of aces before the game ended 15-4 on a Blaschko ace tip.
