Nick Klaseus

School transportation director Nick Klaseus has been voted on by his peers to be board president of the Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation.

With a goal of safely and efficiently transporting students, MNAPT is a statewide organization for transportation professionals who serve students. It has some 450 members, mostly school districts.

Klaseus was elected to the position during the association’s annual July “Train the Trainer” conference, which was held in St. Cloud this year.

During the four-day event, the MNAPT provided training for dispatchers, mechanics, supervisors and drivers. The MN State Patrol was on hand, and there was a vendor showcase, which included bus manufacturing companies.

Klaseus joined Cleveland school back in 2004 as a driver and mechanic. In 2008, he headed up the department.

“I still drive bus and still pull a wrench when I need to.”

Currently, Klaseus oversees five bus drivers, several contracted bus drivers and 11 buses.

Collectively, the group travels about 430 miles each day during its normal bus routes, longer than the length of the state of Minnesota from north to south. The group also hauls kids to field trips and sporting events.
