Keira Schipper layup

Controlling the game from start to finish, host St. Clair didn’t have much trouble with the B squad girls on Monday in a 49-25 win.

It didn’t help the Clippers that Samantha Baker and Mollie Bowman were out with injuries.

After St. Clair scored the first five points, Keira Schipper (above) scored for the Clippers. Cece Gair took a Kaitlyn Flowers pass in for the next Clipper basket, but the Cyclones had 12 points by then. All in a row, Taylor McCabe put in three free shots and a layup, but that was all the Clipper scoring in the half, and they trailed 20-9 at the break.

Taylor Wolf’s basket was the first for the Clippers in the second half. Schipper drove the baseline for a basket, made a pair of free throws and hit a layup and later a basket and an ensuing free throw, but the Cyclones led 36-20.

Valentina Rohlfing assisted Jocelyn Kortuem for a bucket, and strong down the stretch, Flowers made a three and a pair of baskets inside the arc.

Schipper led the effort with 11 points. Flowers had seven points. McCabe had five points all in the first half. Gair, Wolf and Kortuem each chipped in two points.

The Clippers made six of nine free throw attempts. A dozen of the Cyclones’ points came from behind the arc. They made five of 16 free shots.
