Ava Hahn under the basket

Senior dominated Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman rolled over the host varsity girls 69-29 on Thursday.

The Clippers hung around for the first few minutes. After Greta Hahn made a basket from behind the arc three minutes into the game, Ava Hahn drove the baseline for a bucket, and the Clippers were within three, 8-5.

But taking the ball inside and leaning over Clipper players to pull down offensive rebounds, the Jaguars started to separate. Ava Hahn ran in a layup. Greta Hahn stole and drove the floor for a layup, Mariah McCabe made a free throw, and Ava Hahn and Taylor McCabe each put in a three, but that was it for Clipper scoring in the half, and they trailed 34-16 at the break.

“It felt like we were in slow motion tonight,” said head coach Joe Remiger. “We’ve got to figure out what it takes to get to the next level…and they can. I’ve seen it in them.”

Addi Holden put in two buckets early in the second frame, but the Jaguars scored 20 of the first 22 points. Ava Hahn put in a free throw and a basket from the floor and as the mercy clock wound down, Kaitlyn Flowers and Olivia Reinhardt each dropped in a three off the bench, but that was all for the Clipper offense, and the Jags cruised to the win.

With 10 points, Ava Hahn led the Clipper effort. Greta Hahn contributed five points. Holden had four points, Reinhardt, Flowers and Taylor McCabe added three points, and Mariah McCabe chipped in one point.

The Clippers made five three-point baskets and were two of 10 from the foul line. The Jaguars put in a trio of threes and were 10 of 17 in free-throw shooting.

The varsity Clippers will look for a win when they travel to Alden on Tuesday. Like the Clippers, the Knights are still looking for a win this season. In the Valley, they fell 56-41 to T/GHEC/T and 53-24 to LCWM.
