Suffering their first loss, the seventh-grade boys fell to visiting St. Clair 32-20 on Thursday but bounced back on Friday to top host Loyola 32-18.

The Cyclones posted 11 of the first 13 points. Jack Mons scored from the baseline for the Clippers.

From there, Jeremy Miller looped into the lane for a basket, and Mons and Brayden Seeman put in jumpers.

But St. Clair pulled down too many offensive rebounds and arced in a three just in front of the buzzer to lead 18-8 at the break.

Mons put in the first two baskets of the second half. Lucas Kortuem drove down court for a layup. Trailing 21-14, the Clippers had opportunities to further reduce their deficit, but they missed easy layups, and the Cyclones went on the steal and scored the next nine points.

Down the stretch, Mons scored twice, and Tony Hollerich put in a layup, but it was too little too late.

Mons led the effort with 12 points. He also was the top scorer on the Loyola Hill.

The seventh-grade boys played in a tournament in Nicollet on Saturday. They return to action today (Monday) when they take on host Nicollet.
