Mollie Bowman inside with ball

With nine points from Mollie Bowman and eight points from Taylor McCabe, the B-Squad girls were way ahead of host Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman in Granada at halftime on Monday, 29-11.

But, saved for varsity, Bowman and McCabe didn’t play the second half, the Jaguars went on the steal and outscored the Clippers 28-6 after the intermission for the 39-35 win.

Kaitlyn Flowers put in a three late in the first half, and Oliva Reinhardt bagged a three just before the buzzer. Kiera Schipper made a pair of twos in the first half.

But with an effective full-court press, the Jags stole and forced turnovers after the break, steadily chipped away at the Clipper lead and stalemated the game at 36 with 3:21 remaining before making a free shot and a two-point basket for the win.

With a two, a free throw and a three, Schipper was the only Clipper to score in the second half. Cleveland didn’t score during the final seven minutes.

Schipper led the effort with 10 points.  Flowers had five points, and Reinhardt had three points.

The Clippers made three three-point baskets and were four of 11 from the foul line. The Jaguars, who fielded the same seven players in both halves, recorded one three and were successful in 10 of 22 free throw attempts.

The Clipper B girls return to action on Friday with a 4:30 game in Le Sueur.
