Greta Hahn drive

Visiting Madelia never tossed in the towel, but in the end, the varsity girls’ outside shooting was too much for them, and the Blackhawks fell to the Clippers 76-54 on Tuesday.

Earlier in the season, they lost to the Clippers on their own court 68-42.

“It was a good win for the girls,” said head coach Joe Remiger. “They needed it.”

With a free throw, the Blackhawks got on the board first, but Greta Hahn made a pair of free throws, Lacey McCabe yanked in an offensive rebound and scored, and Addi Holden scored to put the Clippers in front 8-5.

Continuing the run, Hahn sunk the first of a quartet of threes she would have in the half. She made the first of two free throws, but the Clippers got the rebound from the second, and Hahn put up another three and assisted her sister Ava Hahn on a two-point bucket for a 17-5 Clipper lead.

Not letting go, with the Clippers in front 32-10, Madelia scored 15 of the next 16 points.

“We try to get our offense going,” Remiger said. “We tell the girls that when it seems like we’ve got an open shot, let’s shoot, and we started to get shots toward the end.”

Kiera Schipper went to work off the bench for six points, and Ava Hahn and Holden each bagged a three, and with a Greta Hahn three with four seconds left, the Clippers led 38-30 at the break.

Ava Hahn put in a couple of free shots and then spun inside for two to start the second half. Greta Hahn made a layup, but the Blackhawks kept pace.

But after Holden sunk a three, Ava Hahn assisted her sister on a layup and then made back-to-back threes. Greta Hahn parked another three, and the Clippers were in front by 20, 58-38. With a steady dose of buckets by G&A, and a Mariah McCabe three, the Clippers cruised to the victory.

Greta Hahn totaled 32 points with a dozen of them coming 18 of them coming from behind the arc. Ava Hahn had 20 points with a dozen of them from three-point baskets. Schipper added nine points. Holden had a three in each half and an inside basket in the second half for eight points. Lacey McCabe had four points, and Mariah McCabe, back on the floor after missing a couple of games, had three points.

“I am glad Mariah was back,” Remiger said. “She helps out defensively too. She had four fouls in the first half but got all the way to three minutes left just because she’s moving her feet better.”

The Clippers totaled a dozen threes and were 10 of 18 from the foul line. Madelia put in a trio of threes and was 13 of 22 in free throw shooting.

The Clippers host Faribault BA tonight. The Cardinals are 9-9 and beat Randolph 44-31, a team that controlled the Clippers back in early January.
