Cece Gair drive

Adding another game to their four-game season, the Clipper C girls played well but fell in Wells to USC 33-25 on Monday.

Ava Kluntz plopped in a free throw to get the Clippers on the board. Kaitlyn Flowers parked a jumper and assisted a Taylor Wolf bucket, and Kluntz grabbed her own rebound and scored, but the Rebels still led 11-7.

Cecelia Gair assisted Valentina Rohlfing on a layup and then bagged a three, to put the Clippers up by a point, 12-11.

The Rebels scored after an offensive rebound before Jocelyn Kortuem's basket from outside put the Clippers back up by a point, 14-13.

But the Rebels scored twice more to take a lead they would never surrender. Rohlfing plopped in a jumper, but the Rebels scored two more baskets down the stretch, the second after a steal, to lead 21-16 at the break.

USC put in the first basket of the second half. Kortuem took a Kiya Sohn handoff inside for a bucket, but the Rebels stole for a basket and offensive rebounded for another before Samantha Baker looped in a jumper.

Later, with the Clippers trailing 29-19, Kortuem made the front end of two foul shots and took a Wolf assist inside for a bucket, and Rohlfing ran in a layup, but the Rebels held on for the victory.

Kortuem led the effort with seven points. Rohlfing scored six points. Kluntz and Gair each had three points. Flowers, Baker and Wolf each chipped in a basket.
