Brian Phillips

Brian J. Phillips, Superintendent of the Cleveland Public School, has announced his intentions to retire effective June 28, 2024.

Brian joined the Clipper family in 1996 as the High School Principal.  He served the district as principal for 9 years.  First as the high school principal and then later as the K-12 Principal, when Connie Letts stepped up from the teaching ranks to become the district superintendent.

During his tenure as principal, Brian prioritized building relationships and working alongside the Cleveland staff dedicated to living out our school’s mission statement.

Below is his goodbye letter:

Dear parents, staff, students, Cleveland and surrounding communities:

This is my farewell to all of you.

My time at Cleveland has been an incredibly fulfilling journey.  I’ve been fortunate to have been a part of the wonderful cast of teachers and support staff that made the Cleveland School special.  I am grateful for the opportunity to have led the organization through some significant initiatives and a building growth project.  With the help of staff, community members and others, we were successful in setting this district up for future success.  In my tenure here, I have met so many wonderful people, families and students.  I will miss you.

I am grateful to the men and women who have served this district and I’m confident that I am leaving the school district in a strong position with updated facilities, new facilities and a number of new programs to best serve the needs of all who enter the front doors of this school.

My decision to retire is driven by a desire to spend more time with my wife Connie and enjoy being grandparents to our three lovely granddaughters.  We look forward to playing pickleball and taking our camper to as many exciting places as we can in the USA and ultimately parking our camper in the front yard of our children’s homes to spend more time with our kids and grandkids.

I’m honored to have served this district for 28 years.  We have an incredible team of caring and passionate men and women, including a supportive board and community, who are focused on providing the best educational experience possible. I leave, knowing the district is in good hands, and I wish the new superintendent, the school, staff and the community the best of luck and continued success.- Mr. Phillips

The Cleveland District is grateful for Brian’s leadership and work he has put into the Cleveland Public School.  Thank you for the 28 years.  Best of luck with your retirement!
