After losing game one 25-19, the JV girls regrouped to beat host Madelia 25-16 but couldn’t seal the deal and fell 15-11 in the rubber game.
Earlier, it was a similar scenario for the C girls, who won the first game 25-29 but lost the next game 25-17 before Madelia edged them in the tiebreaker 16-14.
The Blackhawks were up 7-4 in the third JV game, but with an Aubrey Blaschko kill and a Cheyenne Lotspeich fake set that made its way to the floor on the Madelia side, the Clippers were within two, 11-9.
On a push over, the Blackhawks posted the next point, but Kaitlyn Flowers uncoiled a cross-court kill to put the Clippers back within two points.
But that was pretty much it for the Cleveland offense. They lost the next point on a net infraction and trailed 14-10 after the Blackhawks rolled over an ace. Liviana Lee pushed over a winner, but the game ended 15-11 on a hit the that shanked off the hands of the Clipper defense.
Flowers excavated 16 digs. Amelia Chmiel and Anna Lamont each had seven digs. Jocelyn Kortuem and Valentina Rohlfing each had five digs. Lotspeich had three digs. Blaschko and Maile Meissner each had two digs. Back in action after several weeks out with an injury, Keira Schipper had one dig. Lee and Evelyn Keltgen each had one dig.
Lamont and Flowers each hit six kills. Schipper hit four kills. Kortuem, Lotspeich, Blaschko and Meissner each had a pair kills. Keltgen chipped in one kill.
Kortuem set up 14 points. Lotspeich had four set assists. With one assist were Chmiel, Flowers, Schipper and Rohlfing.
Meiner and Schipper each put up one ace block.
Lotspeich sent over a pair of ace serves. Kortuem, Meissner and Schipper dished up one service ace. The Clippers only missed four serves.
In the C game, Isabel Duron served four aces as did Lee. Mattea Grandaw had two ace serves. Sierra Lotspeich and Taylor Wolf each had one ace serve.
Wolf scooped up seven digs. Duron had five digs. Sierra Lotspeich had four digs. Lee and Madison Wollschlager each had two digs. Clara Hilfer had one dig.
Grandaw popped four kills. Lee had three kills. Hilfer sent over two kills. Ava Kluntz also hit for two kills. Duron and Neenah Lassiter each added one kill. Lassiter also stretched for one ace block.
Duron set up five points. Lotspeich assisted three points. Lee and Jessilynn Milnes each had one set assist.
The B and C girls head to Alden today (Thursday).
