While Allison Cink is looking for more consistency in her golf game, when it comes to winning tournaments this spring, Cink has been steady, taking first place in three of the five matches the Le Sueur-Henderson/Cleveland/Sibley East Giants have competed in so far.
Today (Monday), the senior shot an 87 to best 29 other players at a South Central Conference match at the Le Sueur Country Club. Also competing were teams from St. Clair, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, Maple River and Minnesota Valley Lutheran.
“My drives were the best thing I did today,” she said.
“She always hits the ball solid and is a good leader on the team for sure,” her coach Rod Reinhardt said. “We’ve only had five matches, and her scores have been a little higher than what she likes, but with the warmer weather coming and the way she is playing, she will definitely be one of the best in the conference.”
Meanwhile, teammate Anna Kawatski-Klein took a respectful 11th place.
“Anna has been playing well this season and making a difference on our varsity team,” Reinhardt said.
Competing against teams from MVL and New Ulm on the Le Sueur course on April 15, Cink also emerged as champion. A day before that, competing against golfers from TCU and Belle Plaine, she won a tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.
April 10, Cink took second in a match on the Waseca Lakeside course. On April 17, although the Giants took first place, she shot a 50 for sixth place at a tournament at the New Ulm County Club.
“I didn’t have my best rounds at those tournaments,” she said.
Cink joined the Giants as an eighth grader. Next year, she will be a member of the Marian University (Fond du Lac, Wisconsin) “Sabre” golf team.
Cink, Kawatski-Klein and the rest of the Giants return to the course tomorrow when they head down Highway 99 for a match at Shoreland Country Club (near St. Peter).

Putting wasn’t the strongest suit for Cink on Monday, but her short game was good enough to win the tournament.
