Out and about Cleveland this (Saturday) morning among the garage sales is this group of fifth graders, who are offering poppies.
The free will donations will go to the Cleveland Legion Auxiliary, which in turn pays for four fifth graders to attend Legionville summer camp near Brainard for school patrol training, said fifth grade teacher Jeff Skinner, who organized the poppy event.
The poppy is a symbolic flower used to remember those who died in war, and proceeds from the sales are used to support veterans, their families, and related causes. Offering poppies is associated with Memorial Day (May 26 this year).
