From music to sports, students have tons of opportunities for extracurricular activities, but Drama Kids, an independent international program held at the school, teaches children verbal and creative skills and teamwork while instilling self-confidence.
The group, made up of third graders, gave its end-of-the-year showcase performance, “Toy Room Mystery,” in the auditorium on May 19.
The setting is a toy room and each actor a toy, but who was taking their batteries?
The group has been practicing for an hour each Monday since school started last fall. They started rehearsing their production in January.
Drama teacher Lizzie Rossow, who directs the program at Cleveland, said being a part of Drama Kids provides many benefits.
“It’s a lot of social, emotional, expressive thing. There is that pride of putting something together and the teamwork aspect of it. They have individual roles, but they work together as a team.”
Rossow said performing also helps build confidence and ability to speak in front of a crowd.”
“I always think they are so brave being up in front of people. That’s scary, one of the biggest fears ever, and these guys can do it.”

Who has been stealing the toys’ batteries?
Soldier, ballerina, cat, Legos…each kid represented a toy.
