Cink chipping to green

With a Tuesday round of 89 and a Wednesday round of 87, Allison Cink shot a two-day total of 176 at the state Class AA girls golf tournament.

She finished in a five-way tie for a respectable 40th place among the 88 competitors. The winner scored a 148, just four over par.

The tournament was held at Ridges at Sand Creek near Jordan. The challenging course has 11 holes carved through a heavy woods below a ridge and the other seven holes laid out links-style on the upper portion of the property.

Cink was strong off the tee, but she found the greens to be problematic.

“My ball striking was the best part of my game overall. I struggled the most with putting and getting the speed and breaks down. The greens were hard to read because of how much break they had.”

The tournament was the end of a stellar high school career for Cink, who joined the Le Sueur-Henderson/Cleveland/Sibley East golf team as an eighth grader. But this fall, she will become a member of the Marian University (Fond du Lac, Wisconsin) “Sabre” golf team.

“Allison has been a great leader and role model for the golf team,” said Giant coach Rod Reinhardt, who was alongside Cink throughout the tournament. “She is very easy to coach and is very respectful to all her teammates and coaches. She will continue to get better into her college years.”
