Just one game, a 15-7 loss to host Sibley East on Tuesday, separated the C girls from a perfect season. The Clippers won the second game but couldn’t keep the momentum to take the match, which ended on a Wolverine kill.
The Clippers were coming off a 2-0 win over visiting Sleepy Eye St Mary’s the Thursday before. Set scores in that match were 25-11, 25-16.
Jessilyn Milnes opened game two with a couple of service aces, and the Clippers were in front 7-0 before the Knights scored on a kill.
After a Brooke Bosse kill, Kenzie Kortuem went to work, first with four kills and then three-straight ace serves. Emma Kortuem sent down a kill in the mix, and the Clippers were way up, 18-7.
Five Clipper hitting errors and a SESM narrowed the point differential to five, but on back-to-back Maliah Elias ace serves down the stretch, the Clippers gained some breathing room with a 21-12 advantage.
The Knights went on the attack to win the next three points, but Bosse laid down a winner to end that rally. A kill was the last gasp for the Knights before Bosse ripped another kill, and the game ended after the Knights hit into the net and then out of bounds.
