The solidarity between children and their grandparents is characterized by emotional support, the sharing of wisdom and traditions and unconditional love.

For children, the relationship provides a sense of history and belonging for improved emotional well-being, resilience, enhanced social skills and better academic performance. For grandparents, the connection offers a renewed sense of purpose and joy.

So, it was not surprising that the school halls were jam packed on Monday for Grandparents’ Day.

“Grandparents Day is one of the most special traditions in our school,” said principal Scott Lusk. “This celebration reflects our mission: Inspire, learn, grow, achieve… A community where students and relationships matter. As a principal, I love seeing grandparents in our learning community, sharing in their grandchildren’s day, bringing wisdom into our classrooms, and celebrating the joy of learning together.”

“Since the community is so important to our school, it only seems fitting to include members of our community that have been so supportive over the years in a special celebration of our students,” added principal Dave Cink.

The day was an opportunity for the students to show their grandparents the work they have been doing in their classrooms

“When students proudly show their grandparents their work and their school, it strengthens family connections and reminds our children that they are supported, loved, and part of something bigger,” Lusk said. “Grandparents Day creates memories and highlights the heart of who we are, a caring, connected community where learning is shared across generations.”

Elementary students could play games and do art projects with their grandparents and even go on a scavenger hunt, where they looked for pictures hidden around the hallways.
