Hadley Thompson

With no answer for Martin County West’s MCW’s big scorer, the host B Clippers, although they outscored the Mavericks in the second half, fell 20-17 on Monday.

Taylor Wolf took a Valentina Rohlfing handoff in for the game’s first basket, but the Mavericks went on a stealing rampage after and eventually scored on a layup. From there, they hit a trio of threes, a layup and two free shots before Rohlfing finally stopped the rally when she made the back end of two foul shots.

Later, Hadley Thompson drove for a bucket, and Taylor Wolf took a Gretchen Heldberg assist in for a basket, but the Mavericks were in front 20-7 at the half.

The Maverick’s top gun who dumped in four threes and two-point basket for 14 points but didn’t enter the game after the break, and the Clippers, with three baskets off the hands of Rohlfing, a Cecilia Gair basket and free throw and a Kiya Sohn free throw, outscored the Maverick’s 10-6, but time ran out on their comeback.

Rohlfing totaled seven points. Taylor Wolf had four points. Gair made three points. Thompson had two points. Sohn chipped in a free throw. The Clippers made half of their six foul shots.

Martin County West put in four threes and made four of eight free throws.

While the Clippers travel to Mankato Loyola on Thursday, Mankato Loyola does not have a B squad, so the 0-2 B Clippers, who are coached by Nancy Heldberg, will look for their first win when they host Madelia next Tuesday (November 9).
