The pre-K through sixth grade parade of trees, the Toys for Tots toy drive and Cleveland's Santa parade united at the firehall on Saturday.
The event was the result of the school’s Title One program working with the Cleveland Police and Fire Departments. The parade of trees had typically been held in the school commons with the community holiday parade ending there, but having it at the firehall made it a bigger event, said Title One teacher Chris Seeman.
“We have space to be able to connect with community members.”
At the event, parents and kids could look at the ornament on the 19 trees lined up around the firehall. Each pre-K through sixth grade classroom made ornaments based on a book the class read and decorated a tree with them.
The event was the drop off point for Toys for Tots in memory of Everly Hewitt. Dozens of toys brought in were spread out among tables. Kids could create Christmas crafts, play games, decorate cookies and go on a scavenger hunt, where they had to locate pictures around the firehall, complete a check sheet and turn it in with the chance to win book prizes.
Santa Clause and company paraded around town and ended up at the firehall.
“So we’re getting a little literacy, a little fun and crafts stuff and all of the above,” Seeman said.
The decorated Christmas trees were slated to be moved to the school commons.
