Hampered by turnovers, the B-squad girls fell to visiting Madelia 33-23 on Tuesday.

Madelia took the jump ball in for a basket. The Clippers turned the ball over four times from there, and the Blackhawks added a pair of free baskets.

Gretchen Heldberg took an Ava Kluntz pass in for a bucket for the Clippers’ first points. Kiya Sohn plunged in a three from the corner for a 5-4 Clipper advantage, but six more Clipper turnovers, including four Madelia steals, the Blackhawks converted for a 6-5 advantage.

Kluntz hit an inside basket while Madelia stole and dropped down a three. But Hadley Thompson scored from under the rim, Kluntz put in two free shots, and with a Valentina Rohlfing steal and shore-to-shore drive for a layup, the Clippers, despite their troubles hanging on to the ball, led 13-10 at the break.

But the Blackhawks made a two-point basket and then a three to take over the lead at the half. With steals and layups, they continued to extend their lead. Down the stretch, Rohlfing made a layup, stole and dumped in a shot inside, and Taylor Wolf scored after a Kendra Schipper steal, but the Clippers couldn’t catch back up.

With seven points, Rohlfing led the effort. Kluntz contributed four points. Sohn, Wolf, Thompson and Heldberg each had three points.

The Clippers made seven of eight free shots and had one three. Madelia put in two three-point baskets and was five of 17 from the foul line.

The B Clippers, still looking for their first W this season, travel to Nicollet tonight (Friday).
