With a 46-30 over visiting Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Thursday and a 37-28 victory over host Medford on Friday, the C boys maintained an unbeaten streak before they lost in Granada yesterday (Tuesday).
Against AC/GE, after the Clippers took the jump ball down court, Jake Mueller pulled down a rebound and scored. Brayden Seeman put in a free throw, Pierce Lyons dropped in a jumper from the baseline, and with a Luke Kortuem drive for a bucket, the Clippers were suddenly in front 7-0.
The Knights scored twice inside, but Kortuem put in the first of two free shots, Jeremy Miller scored from the baseline, Lyons stole at mid court and ran in a layup before assisting Miller for a 14-4 Clipper advantage.
Later in the half, Zander Linder went on a 7-point run with a pair of twos and a basket from behind the arc. Down the stretch, Mueller put in a pair of two pit baskets and a free shot. The Knights came up with a three-point basket before the buzzer, but the Clippers led 28-13 at the half.
With a balanced offense, the Clipper maintained their lead in the second half to secure the triumph.
Mueller put in five two-point baskets and two freebies to stuff the scorebook with 12 points. Also with a dozen points, Linder made a pair of threes and three two-pointers. Lyons added eight points. Kortuem contributed five points. Miller posted four points. Seeman supplied three points. Creidin Lee contributed a basket from the floor in the second half.
The Clipper made four of 14 foul shots. The Knights were three of nine from the foul line and put in five threes, three more than the Clippers.
Cleveland 37, Medford 28
Mueller put in four first-half buckets, Kortuem plunged in a three, and Seeman chipped in a two-point basket, but the Clippers trailed Medford by two points at the break.
But the Clippers held the Tigers to just 11 points after the break, and with six points form Kortuem and Mueller, four points from Miller and three points from Seeman and Lyons, they ran at twice Medford’s output for the win.
Mueller totaled 14 points. Kortuem had 10 points, including the Clippers’ only three. Seeman and Miller each added five points. Lyons had three points, all in the second half.
Still struggling from the foul stripe, the Clippers made just four of 14 attempts. Medford put in four three-point baskets and none of four free throws.
The Clippers’ win streak ended on Tuesday when they fell to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (see upcoming story). They will look to get back on the winning track when they host Le Sueur-Henderson on Friday.
