Avenging an earlier 35-24 loss, the B-squad girls topped visiting Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 36-32 on Monday.
The Clippers trailed most of the game but kept their composure in the final four minutes to notch the victory.
Valentina Rohlfing stole and ran in a layup for the game’s first basket. The Knights responded right after with a three, put in a free throw and then scored inside to lead 6-2, but Hadley Thompson launched a three-pointer from the corner, and Rohlfing stole again and ran in a layup to put the Clippers in front by a point.
The Knights surged for the next nine points. Natalie Flowers grabbed her own rebound and put it back up for a basket to break up the run. Later, Flowers put in a free shot, Thompson ran a Rohlfing toss up from the baseline for a basket, and Allie Anderson put up an in-bounds pass from near the foul line for a bucket.
The Knights put in a free throw, but Gretchen Heldberg scored inside on a Ava Kluntz assist to narrow the Clipper deficit to three, 19-16 at the break.
Flowers picked up her fourth foul on the inbounds pass that started the second half. The Knights scored twice. Anderson sunk a three for the first Clipper basket of the half, and Thompson grabbed a loose ball and put it up for a bucket, but the Clippers still trailed 25-21.
With a free basket and an outside shot on a Rohlfing assist, the Clippers trimmed their deficit to a point. The Knights scored inside, but Flowers took a Thompson toss up and in, and Heldberg sank a pair of free shots to put the Clippers up by a point, 28-27, with 6:08 remaining.
The Knights scored inside, but Rohlfing launched an inbounds pass through the net. The Knights made three of four freebies to go ahead by a basket, but starting with an Anderson steal and layup, the rest of the half belonged to the Clippers.
Cecelia Gair put in a couple of foul shots for the Clipper lead. Thompson drove the baseline for an insurance bucket, and, despite missing a couple of free throws in the final seconds, the Clippers held on for the win.
With a dozen points, Thompson led the Clippers. Anderson had seven points. Rohlfing had six points. Heldberg had four points. Flowers had three points. Gair chipped in a basket.
Thompson shot the Clippers’ only three-point basket. The Clippers were six of 15 in foul shooting. The Knights put in a pair of threes and made eight of 18 free throws.
The B girls will road trip to Randolph tonight (Thursday).
