Mueller watching target

Picking up from where he left off at the end of last spring: the Clipper trap team’s most accurate shooter, Jake Mueller was the top gun in competition week one on Wednesday.

With rounds of 20 and 24, Mueller totaled 44 points. Despite a strong tail wind at the Caribou Gun Club, the freshman’s score was an improvement of five points over his reserve week score, which he posted seven days prior.

“You never know where the clay’s going to move,” Mueller said. “The wind can take it up, and it can take it sideways.

Overall, the Clippers were on target. The average score from reserve week, a mark the shooters can bank if they miss a round, was 15. 3. But another week of experience trumped the wind, and the average score was 28.6.

With a 42, six better than reserve week, Urijah Hoheisel was just two clays off the pace. Blake Stocker shot a 41 to round out the freshman win, place and show.

Junior Colton Tousley shot a 30. Freshmen Tony Hollerich and Gauge Bock and senior Olivia Reinhardt all splattered 38 targets for the highest girl’s score. Freshman John Ritchie connected with 35 targets while classmates Graham Reinhardt brought down 33.

Sophomore Bryce Pettit scored a 32 while freshman Brayden Seeman and senior Carter Kern each scored a 31.

William Zimmerman, a seventh grader, shot a 29. With a 28, eighth grader Braydon Tousley boosted his reserve week score by eight points, the highest gain among the Clippers. Colter O’Keefe also hit 28 clays.

Junior Cole Stocker shot a 27. With 26s were sophomore Brunson Gibbs, seventh grader Jacquelyn Heldberg and senor Deandra Doerr. Junior Marshall Heldberg shot a 25. Eighth grader Brennon Holicky and freshman Ethan Lloyd each shot a 24.

Junior Henry Boelter grounded 22 discs. Eighth grader Parker Holicky shot a 19. William Koppelman, the only sixth grader on the team, broke up 15 targets. Seventh grader Raelynn Holicky shot a 14. Eighth grader Tyler Smith shot a 13, and eighth grader Steve Giebel brought down a dozen targets.
