From regular golfers to those on a course for the very first time, Shoreland Country Club near St. Peter was filled from green to green on Tuesday during the 46th annual Cleveland Open.
The event is expected to raise about $6500 for Cleveland Public School athletic programs, said organizer Jennifer Schmidt.
“We are grateful for all those who turned out as well as for our generous sponsors,” Schmidt said.
The tournament format was a four-person scramble. The 27 teams were split into two flights, one playing the front nine and the other on the back nine.
On the front nine, Travis Mons, Walker Froehling, Eric Hagedorn and Travis Christensen shot the lowest score: four under par. Tying for the lowest score on the back nine, also four under par, were the foursome of Carson Schweim, Doug Schweim, Audra Schweim and Mackenzie Schweim and the quartet of Nick Smith, Heather Smith, Josh Groebner and Sara Groebner.
Among the front nine golfers, Matt Miller drove closest to the pin on hole number five, Christensen had the longest drive on hole two, and Jake Johnson had the longest putt on hole 9.
On the back nine, Lindsey Botker drove closest to the pin on hole 10, Josh Groebner had the longest drive on hole 14, and Jason Voit had the longest putt on hole 13.
Golfers could play a couple of games during the round for prizes. On hole one, Clipper athletes Delany Thompson, Hadley Thompson and Taylor Wolf ran the marshmallow drive game. Caleb Connor and Braeden Smith operated the same game on hole 15.
Driving a marshmallow the farthest were Ben Johnson and Carson Schweim.
On hole seven, Jack Mons and Charlie Mons ran a beanbag toss game, where a getting a beanbag down the cornhole earned the golfer a 50/50 raffle ticket. On hole 18, Taylor McCabe and Brayden Schmidt ran the beanbag toss.
Afterwards, golfers were treated to a burger bar in the clubhouse. During the meal, Schmidt and Alissa Gibbs drew names for door prizes, winners of a pair of 50/50 raffles and winners of raffles for other items.
