Host New Ulm Cathedral didn’t give the JV girls a ton of trouble in the season opener. The Clippers took all three games.
In game one, Valentia Rohlfing’s ace serve was the first Clipper winner and knotted the game 4-4. After Natalie Flowers swung for a kill, Cathedral got caught in the net and Rohlfing airmailed over another ace serve, the Clippers went in front 7-4 and never trailed from there.
Down the stretch, Sierra Lotspeich served a pair of aces as did Flowers and the game ended 25-14 when a Cathedral serve sailed past the boundary line.
Emma Kortuem landed a couple of hits early in game two, and Kenzie Kortuem tipped over an ace for a 4-2 Clipper advantage. Down the stretch, Mattea Grandaw posted an ace block and Cheyenne Lotspeich served an ace.
Brooke Bosse’s hit deep was the last Clipper winner before the game ended 25-15 when the Greyhounds couldn’t assemble a return.
Game three was for practice, and the Clippers won 15-4.
Flowers and Kenzie Kortuem each had four kills on the night. Emma Kortuem hit three winners. Hadley Thompson had two kills. With one kill were Sierra Lotspeich, Ava Kluntz, Anna Lamont, Grandaw and Bosse.
Thompson set up 17 points. Cheyenne Lotspeich had one set assist and scooped four digs. Sierra Lotspeich and Thompson had two digs. Flowers and Kenzie Kortuem each brought up one dig. Grandaw had the Clippers’ only ace block.
Cheyenne Lotspeich served 11 aces. Rohlfing served three aces. Thompson sent over one ace serve. With one ace were Kenzie Kortuem, Clara Hilfer, Emma Kortuem and Sierra Lotspeich.
The JV girls, who are coming off a win over Southwest Christian in Chaska on Saturday, take on visiting Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton today (Tuesday) at 5:45 p.m.
