Sleepy Eye was no match for the varsity girls on Thursday in a 3-0 Clipper sweep.
Game one started on a Taylor McCabe kill and ended 25-20 when Maile Meissner tipped over an ace.
Game two started on a McCabe ace tip and ended 25-8 when Sleepy Eye couldn’t handle a Melia Sathoff serve.
Game three started on a Sathoff back row kill and ended 25-12 on a Sierra Lotspeich kill.
Delaney Thompson (above) lifted 15 digs and dished four ace serves, set up four points and had one kill.
“I love being with my team and taking care of business,” said the senior libero, who celebrated her 18th birthday the day of the game. “Being out on the court with my teammates was really the best birthday present.”
Also, head coach Dave Nixon was celebrating 100 wins as a Cleveland coach, but the game against Sleepy Eye was really his 101st win there as a recount earlier showed the game before was actually his 100th CHS victory.
Sathoff hit 10 winners, scooped four digs and served up four ace serves. McCabe sent over 13 kills and five ace serves and raised four digs. Jocelyn Kortuem set for 36 points, hoisted six digs, stretched for one ace block assist and airmailed eight ace serves. Kaitlyn Flowers served one ace, hoisted one dig and recorded one set assist. Keira Schipper had one kill and one ace block assist. Aubrey Blaschko had five kills. Meissner had four kills. Liviana Lee had three kills and one dig. Kenzie Kortuem had three kills, one solo ace block and one dig. Lotspeich had one kill. Luci Blaschko had eight digs.
The Clippers host non-conference Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial tonight (Tuesday).
