Visiting Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial gave the varsity girls a solid fight on Tuesday, but ultimately, the Clippers prevailed.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, 25-15.
Game two started with a Melia Sathoff kill and. The Knights went on the attack to lead 6-4 and then 9-7, but after a McCabe direct return for a winner, a Jocelyn Kortuem fake set that fell into an open slot and a Sathoff ace return, the Clippers pulled ahead 10-8 before serving out of bounds.
The Knights ensuing serve crashed into the net, but with a kill, they deadlocked the game 11-11 before the Clippers scored the next four points, one on a Sathoff back row kill and the rest on errors.
Sathoff unleashed a series of spikes for winners after that, and the game ended on a Keira Schipper ace tip.
LCWM posted the first two points of game three and later led 5-4 before they lost a couple of points to the net. After an Amelia Chmiel ace serve and a Sathoff kill, the Clippers went in front 8-6 and never lost the lead after. The game ended when the Knights block of a McCabe kill caromed out of bounds.
With 17 kills and one set assist, Sathoff led the attack squad. McCabe totaled 11 kills. Besides her 36 set assists, Kortuem had three kills. Schipper swung for five kills. Aubrey Blaschko had four kills and one set assist, and Liviana Lee had two kills.
McCabe hoisted 15 digs. Libero Delaney Thompson raised 13 digs. Sathoff scooped nine digs. Luci Blaschko lifted seven digs and had one set assist. Kortuem had five digs. Maile Meissner and Kaitlyn Flowers each had two digs. Lee had one dig.
Turning defense into offense, McCabe and Meissner each assisted three ace blocks. Schipper assisted two. Kortuem and Aubrey Blaschko each stretched for one block assist.
The Clippers safely landed 65 of 74 serves. Sathoff sent over two aces while Thompson, Kortuem, Flowers and Chmiel each dispatched one ace serve.
The Clippers host Nicollet tonight (Thursday).
