After a decisive loss to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday, the C Clipper volleyball team bounced back on Thursday to defeat Nicollet.
Both matches were on the Clipper court.
The Knights won game one 25-8, game two 25-10 and were leading a for-practice game three 17-13 before time ran out.
After the Clippers won game one against Nicollet 25-19, they were up 19-16 in game two after a Nicollet serve into the net. But the Raiders dropped down a kill to start a five-point spurt, which also included three Clipper miscues and an ace serve, for a 21-19 advantage.
The Clippers recomposed though, and the rest of the game mostly went all their way. The comeback started with a Lily McMillen push into an open gap of Nicollet floor. Gretchen Heldberg followed with an ace serve to deadlock the score at 21, and McMillen swung for a kill for the third-straight Clipper winner and a lead the Clippers would never relinquish.
After the Raiders couldn’t assemble a return, they scored on a Clipper hitting error, but Addison Sandhurst’s kill put the Clippers in front 24-22 before the game ended when Nicollet lost control of a return.
The C girls are back in action on Tuesday when they take on host Mayer Lutheran at 4:15 PM.
