Finishing their season on an uptick, the C volleyball girls swept visiting Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 2-0 on Monday.
An Anistyn Dauk kill put the Clippers in front 15-12 in game one. After a Knight hit out of bounds, Elsie Theis sent over a winner.
Down the stretch, Dauk added two more kills, and Lily McMillen dished up a pair of ace serves, and the Clippers won 25-16 after SESM’s hot got stuck in the net.
The Knights sent the first serve of game two into the net, and Dauk followed with a hat trick of kills in a five-point spurt.
But the Knights took advantage of a couple of ace serves, Clipper errors and a lifting infraction to take a 6-5 lead before their serve crashed into the webbing. Quickly recovering though, they came up with a pair of kills and an ace serve to lead the Clippers 9-6.
After a pair of Clipper wayward serves and a kill, the Knights extended their lead to four, but taking advantage of SESM errors after that, the Clippers won the next six points to go ahead 14-12 and never trailed after.
Kills by Dauk and Gretchen Heldberg added to the Clipper lead before the game ended 25-19 on a Dauk ace serve.
