Carter Barto under the basket

The C-Squad boys basketball team couldn’t hang on to a halftime lead and fell to Martin County West 37-21 in Sherburn on Saturday. It was the Clippers' season opener.

Coached by Lon Voss, the Clippers limited MCW to two three pointers and a basket from the floor in the first half for eight points. Meanwhile, Braeden Hastings scored seven points, 6-3 center Carter Barto (above) added five points and Colin Krenik chipped in four points for a 16-8 Clipper lead at the break.

But with five three pointers and 29 total points, the second half was all Mavericks. A pair of baskets from the floor by Barto and a free throw off the hands of Dakota Alitz were all the Clippers could muster.

The Clippers return to action on Thursday when they host Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.
