Coming from a deficit, the Jr. High girls beat Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC 26-21 on Thursday in Cleveland’s little gym.
Coached by Christian Harmeyer, the Clippers girls are now 2-1.
With her team down 16-11 in the second half, Lacey McCabe (above) made back-to-back layups. Ava Hahn continued the run with a layup as well.
The Jaguars took the lead back with a basket, but McCabe’s steal and shore-to-shore drive to the hoop put the Clippers up 19-18.
Scoring on the first of two free shots, the Jaguars knotted the contest at 19, but McCabe did the same, and the Clippers took a lead they would never relinquish.
Addie Holden (think little sister of the varsity boys’ star Ben Holden), hit back-to-back jump shots to extend the lead. The Jags made another basket, but McCabe, who paced the Clippers with 13 points, punctuated the win with a jumper.
Hahn scored six points, one more than Holden. Olivia Reinhardt chipped in two points.
The Clippers opened their season with a 28-13 victory over visiting Loyola and then fell to visiting Martin County West. They will travel to Alden Conger on Tuesday.
Olivia Reinhardt puts up a shot.
Ava Hahn dribbles to the basket.
