Carter Barto

B-Squad bigs Carter Barto (above) and Kolby Gens teamed up for 26 points as the host Cleveland B-Squad came from behind several times to beat Truman/Martin Luther/GHEC 48-41 on Friday.

Jackson Meyer’s three from the corner was the game’s first basket. Colin Krenik dropped a three, and after Gens stole and drove the entire floor for a layup, the Clippers led 9-2.

Scoring from inside, the Jaguars went on a seven-point spurt to pull ahead 11-10, but Meyer and Barto each grabbed a rebound under Cleveland’s basket and scored to regain the Clipper lead.

The Jaguars responded with a two and a three. Barto drove the lane for a basket, Lucas Walechka O-rebounded and scored, and Meyer arced in another three, but the Jaguars scored the last five points of the first half for a 23-21 advantage at the break.

A Barto steal followed by a Krenik three and then a Krenik steal with a Barto jumper put the Clippers back up to start the second half, but the Jaguars answered with a basket and free shot to regain the lead. With driving baskets by Barto and Gens, Cleveland kept pace though.

But after trailing 39-37, Clippers took charge.

Walechka rebound and scored for another tie, and Krenik made three of four freebies. On a cross-court Braeden Hastings assist, Barto’s layup put Cleveland in front 44-39.

The Jaguars managed another basket, but Barto and Gens scored from  inside down the stretch to wrap up the Clipper triumph.

Barto paced the Clippers with 15 points. Gens had 11, and Krenik added nine points. Meyer scored eight points in one half played. Walechka chipped in five points.
