With no games scheduled in 2020, this was the first summer softball season for not only the first graders but second graders too.

The two classes combined for an 8U softball team.

“It was a learning curve for everyone,” said coach Steve Baker.

Like it should be for all elementary teams, the coaches recognized that play time, working  on  basic skills and having fun were the primary objectives for 8U, but the fledgling Clippers won all their games too.

They finished their season on Tuesday with a triumph over visiting North Star (Sibley East).

“It was a great season to watch them grow,” said coach Nick Smith. “By our book we were undefeated. The offense really came around, and the defense came around too at the end of the year.”

In 8U, a coach has pitching duties.

Khloe McCabe, Eva Schummer, Jayda Roemhildt and Kenzie Sandhurst cheer their teammate at the plate.

Lucy Smith scoops up a grounder as a North  Star runner races to first base.

Addy Hoffman coils for a throw to first.

Kennedy Dauk connects at the plate.

Jayda Roemhildt puts the bat on the ball.

Blair Voit funnels a grounder.

Ruby Page, Kennedy Dauk, Lucy Smith, Bella Baker and Lexi Wobbrock encourage their teammates.

The 8U Clippers celebrate the win over North Star and the end their first season.
