Quarterback Carson Lyons connected with Tanner Simonette for big yardage, and the junior high Clippers beat Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 16-6 in Waterville on Monday.

With the Clippers trailing 6-0, Simonette hauled in a Lyons pass for the touchdown. The duo hooked up again for the point after and an 8-6 Clipper advantage.

Later in the first half, Lyons dove in from a few yards out for the second Clipper TD and then tossed to Simonette for a PAT catch that put the Clippers up 16-6.

In the second half, the Clippers had a few big yardage plays called back on penalties, but they hung on for the triumph.

Now 2-0, the Clippers dominated visiting USC 38-0 in their season opener a week earlier.

Head coach Tray Jones said the JV Clippers hadn’t won a game in the last two years and so came out ready to play this season.

“They missed the magic.”
