Visiting Martin County West was an easy 3-0 win for the Clipper varsity girls on Thursday. Game scores were 25-12, 25-17, 25-18.

The scores might have been more lopsided, but the all the girls got playtime, and passes went around to the entire hitting committee.

“Taylin (setter Taylin Gosch) was trying to set all over, trying to spread it out,” said head coach Bree Meyer.

Cleveland lost the first point of game one on a hit that sailed over the boundary lines, but Jordyn Klingel tied the game with a kill, and the Clippers never looked back, scoring 15 of the next 18 points.

Game two started on an Ava Hahn ace serve and ended when the Mavericks sent a serve into the net.

MCW took advantage of Clipper hitting errors to take the first four points of game three but then served into the net for the Clippers’ first point. Savannah Meyer jettisoned a couple of service aces after that, and Emily Kern posted an ace block to knot the contest at four.

“It’s nice to have Ava and Savannah serving when Emily is in the front row to keep the momentum going,” Meyer said.

The Clippers errored on the next two points, but went on a nine-point campaign after that.

Down 19-7, MCW took advantage of Cleveland errors to pull within four, 23-18, but Meyer sent over a couple of ace serves from there for the Orange & Black triumph.

Kern had a dozen kills, five blocks and two digs. Grayce Kortuem had four kills and one dig. Gosch set up 25 points and had four kills of her own. Hahn had six kills and made all 23 of her serves with three of them aces. Maddy Steen had one kill and one dig. Harley Connor had two kills.

Emma Sweere had 18 digs. Klingel and Meyer each had seven digs. Zoe Porter had six digs. Meyer was 10 for 11 from behind the service line with four aces. Allison Jindra had two digs and one ace serve.
