A young Madelia team was an easy 60-26 win for the visiting Clipper girls on Friday.

Cleveland is now 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Valley Conference.

“We started out really well. We rebounded really well,” said head coach Joe Remiger. “We know physically when we play Madelia, we are going to have to play tough, and I was really impressed with us down low tonight. Offensively we did a good job of dumping the ball down low early.”

With 18 points, Kaylee Karels led the Clippers. She had a pair of baskets from three-point land.

Remiger said the junior also had a good game rebounding.

“Kaylee was all over the boards tonight. She had 10 or 12 rebounds in the first half, and that was a big deal for us.”

Sarena Remiger was right behind Karels on the scoreboard with 17 points. Laci Hollerich added 10 points. Emily Kern dropped in six points. Emma Treanor hit a three pointer, and Greta Hahn also scored three points. Ava Hahn chipped in two points, and Lacey McCabe had one point.

“Emily, Sarena, Laci had a great game,” Remiger said. “Emma Treanor came in and she’s having some back stuff tonight, but for her to step in and do what she did…we didn’t have a lot of threes, but they were wide open for us. It was a good night to have our bigs involved, and they have some girls who physically are as big or bigger than Sarena or Kern, and for them to step up the way they did, I like that.”

Remiger said the game was a morale booster overall.

“We’re going to play some tough teams down the road, but this is a good confidence builder to get to where we need to, and I love that we are getting some of these younger girls—Addi (Holden), Ava LaFrance, Ava Hahn—some time, and telling them ‘you are going to have to be tougher than you are now.’ If we get an injury or two in the season, they will have to step up to the plate.”

The Clippers made three of 11 free-throw attempts. The Blackhawks, who were down 42-11 at the half, had four three-point baskets and were seven of 22 from the charity stripe.

There was no B-squad game.
