The Cleveland FFA Chapter wrapped up National FFA Week with an “Ag Olympics” themed competition. Students from every grade competed in events like “Lasso a Cow,” “Horse Racing,” “Needle in a Haystack,” “Peel an Orange,” and “Milk a Cow.” Led by FFA President Kayla Zimmerman, Treasurer Lilly Draheim, and Reporter Sarena Remiger, the officer team entertained the school with great ag jokes on Friday afternoon. Vice President Ryan Reineke and Secretary Katie Cink helped with the logistics- equipment and scorekeeping. The Junior Class came away with the Ag Olympics win. “There was a lot of cheering,” said a senior class member. “The events were really fun, especially needle in the haystack.”

The Junior Class also won the week- long competition between the grades by competing various tasks and missions. Everything from finding a license plate with the letters “AG” on it to reciting the FFA motto to answering FFA trivia questions were being done all week by the entire student body. The Junior Class took away the grand prize: getting lunch catered in. 8th grade came in a close second- but competition was hot all week. “We were NOT going to lose to the 8th graders!” exclaimed a junior class member. Throughout the week they hosted dress up days- PJ Day, Career Day, Western Day, and Blue and Gold Day. Other activities throughout the week included a dodgeball tournament between grades, thank you notes written to farmers, and some staff appreciation activities. The officer team took great pride in increasing ag knowledge and raising awareness of FFA with their peers.

There was also a fundraising component of National FFA Week- high schoolers did “Treat the Teachers” where they voted with their wallet on which high school teacher they wanted to see wear a costume, get pranked, or wear a face tattoo for a day. Elementary students once again “Packed the Piggies.” The first grade raised the most money and will be treated to an ice cream sundae party. Together, students were able to raise around $1300 that was used to purchase fleece to make tie blankets to donate to the Ronald McDonald House and pediatric ICUs. “Making tie blankets was really fun and for a great cause,” shared a sophomore.

The FFA Officer team would like to thank Kwik Trip for donating doughnuts and cookies this week for all staff members.
