Cleveland Open donation

This year, the Cleveland Open Golf Tournament raised $3,500 for the Cleveland Public School Athletic Department.

The money will go toward new playground and fitness equipment, said athletic director Rich Kern (second from right).

In its 42nd year, the tournament took place August 2 at the Shoreland golf course near St. Peter. Following was a supper and a banquet at Kokomo’s Bar & Grill in Cleveland.

The $3,500 donation came from proceeds of the donations of the 33 business hole sponsors (see below); a raffle, which included Minnesota Wild tickets, Minnesota Viking tickets, a spa package, gift certificates and Cleveland All-Season Athletic passes; a 50/50 drawing and a portion of the players fees.

The number of golf carts available set the limit of foursomes: 23. There as a waiting list of 15 teams, said Jennifer Schmidt (second from left), who coordinated the tournament.

“I am thankful to all of the players, our hole sponsors and businesses that donated door prizes,” said Schmidt.
