Sarena Remiger jump shot

Snapping out of a four-game losing streak, the varsity girls topped visiting Alden-Conger 62-34 on Thursday for their first win this season.

The teams traded threes out of the gate. The Clippers’ came off the hands of Ava Hahn. It was the first of six the Clippers would have in the frame.

Kaylee Karels followed up with a three. Not to be outdone, Greta Hahn also scored from three-point territory. After she put in a basket from inside, Karels plopped in another three. Later, Addi Holden got into the mix with a three, and Ava Hahn put in her second.

While the Knights scored a handful of points early, the Clippers upped their defense after that to take the game over.

“We were passive to start,” said head coach Joe Remiger. “The first four or five minutes, we weren’t that aggressive. We should have been up in them more, and when we were that changed it.”

Meanwhile, Sarena Remiger (above), on the court for the first time this season after fighting injury and illness, worked the ball inside for eight points, and the Clippers had a comfy 37-10 lead at the intermission.

“I was getting a little tired,” said Remiger. “I’ve got a lot of work to do, like posting up and boxing out. And then free throws. I didn’t make a one. But it’s good to be back out there. I missed playing with Kaylee (her fellow senior), so it was good to be back out there with her.”

Greta Hahn made a foul shot for the first of the 24 points the Clippers would have in the second half, the same amount as the Knights. Ava Hahn put in another three as did Taylor McCabe off the bench.

Karels paced the Clippers with 16 points. With her hat trick of threes, Ava Hahn dumped in 15 points. Remiger was also in double figures with 10 points.

Greta Hahn had six points. Holden contributed five points. Taylor McCabe led the McCabe trio with three points. Her older sisters Lacey McCabe and Mariah McCabe each chipped in a basket from the floor. Mollie Bowman had a bucket in the second half for two points. Samantha Baker put in a freebie.

The Clippers were eight of 17 from the foul line. Alden Conger made three three-point baskets and was nine of 17 in free-throw shooting.
