Taylor McCabe layup

Pass? Dribble? Shoot?

Chris Seely’s B-Squad girls made good choices all over the floor on Tuesday in a 40-12 success over visiting Madelia.

Cleveland never trailed.

Eighth grader Taylor McCabe (above), who led the Clippers with 11 points, took the jump ball in for a layup. The Blackhawks hit a pair of foul shots, but the Clippers took a lead they would never relinquish when Addi Holden’s jumper from the top of the key plummeted through the net.

McCabe stole and fed classmate Delaney Thompson under the rim for the next Clipper basket. After a Samantha Baker swipe, McCabe similarly sponsored Holden for two more. After Mollie Bowman hauled in an offensive rebound and scored times two, the Clippers were in front a dozen to two.

Madelia managed another bucket, but Holden rebounded and scored from the paint, and Bowman fought inside for another basket. Olivia Reinhardt worked a Holden handoff up and in before the Blackhawks put in the last hoop of the half. The Clippers were ahead 18-6 at the intermission.

McCabe drove the baseline for the first basket of the second half. Bowman received an inbounds pass under the rim, missed, snatched the rebound and scored for the next Clipper basket. McCabe drove through the lane for two more Clipper points.

Out on the floor in the second half, Lacey McCabe took a feed from her younger sister in for a layup and 26-6 Clipper advantage before Madelia scored again. The older McCabe drove the baseline to put the Clippers up 28-8.

From there, Thompson put in a layup, Reinhardt and Taylor McCabe each scored from three-point range, and Taylor McCabe hit another layup. The Blackhawks scored twice, but Lacey McCabe twisted in a Reinhardt toss to put the finishing touches on the lopsided triumph.

Scoring was a team effort. Bowman added eight points. Holden racked up seven points. Lacey McCabe donated six points. Reinhardt contributed five points. Thompson provided four points.

The B girls return to action on Thursday when they travel to Janesville.
