Elijah Mons looks to the hoop

Although they improved in the second half, the C boys lost to visiting St. Clair 51-30 on Tuesday.

They are still looking for their first win this season.

Elijah Mons (above), Bode Bartell and Killian Kunkel each scored a field goal in the first half, and Mason Kluntz added a free throw, but St. Clair led 26-7 at the break.

The Cyclones hit a three for the first basket of the second frame. That was the difference in the half as the Clippers finally got their offense in gear.

Mons took a Gavin Karels assist in for the first Cleveland bucket. Bartell drove to the hoop, and Karels pulled down an offensive rebound and scored. Nathan Brink grabbed an inbound pass and scored and followed up with a jumper.

Bartell made four-straight foul baskets, Karels scored from inside and Brink stole and scored to put the Clippers within a dozen, 38-26, but that was as close as they could get as the Cyclones responded with a pair of threes.

Bartell scored again, but St. Clair went on a seven-point run after that. Brink pulled down an offensive rebound and put it back up for the game’s last basket.

Bartell finished with 10 points. Brink posted eight points Gavin Karels added five points, Elijah Mons had four points Kunkel contributed a basket from the floor. Kluntz chipped in a free throw.

The Clippers were six of 13 from the foul line. St. Clair was five of 11 in free-throw shooting and put in seven threes.

The day before, the C boys fell 27-21 to Martin County West in Sherburn. The Mavericks led 18-5 at halftime.

Brink led the effort with eight points. Bartell had four points. Mons and Nathan Seeman each had two points. Karels made a free throw.

The Clippers were five of 10 from the foul line. MCW was four and eight in free throws and put in one three pointer.

At Madelia on December 13, the C boys lost 41-15. Bartell made a free throw and a basket from the floor, and Mons hit a free shot for the only Clipper points in the first half. The Blackhawks led 21-4 at halftime.

Brink had six points in that game. Bartell had five. Mons added three points, and Karels made a free throw. The Clippers were three of 10 from the foul line. The Blackhawks made a trio of three pointers and were four of seven in free-throw shooting.

The C boys will be back in action when they travel to Lester Prairie on January 3.
