Sam Ternes drive

Braeden Smith and Sam Ternes (above) each scored 14 points as the eighth-grade boys routed visiting Nicollet 43-13 on Tuesday.

Nicollet scored out of the gate, but Smith put in a bucket from inside for the Clippers’ first basket. Ternes drove through the paint for two more, and Caleb Connor looped in a three for a 7-2 Clipper advantage.

After the Raiders hit a free shot, Connor twisted in a posh layup, and Smith grabbed an offensive rebound and scored.

The Clippers kept on the gas pedal for the easy triumph.

Connor added seven points, Ethan Hoehn had six points, and Aiden Domras put in a basket.

The eighth-grade team returns to the court on Friday when the Clippers take on host Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman.

Caleb Connor eyes the basket as he takes the ball between a pair of Raider defenders.

Braeden Smith readies to go up for a shot.
