Alex Johnson shot

Visiting Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther broke a 13-13 halftime draw to beat the Clipper Boys 32-19 on Friday.

Alex Johnson (above) hit a jumper for the game’s first basket but later left the game with an injury.

The teams traded baskets the rest of the half. For the Clippers, Gavin Karels scored on a jumper, and Bode Bartell put in a three from the corner and the and-one basket for a four-point play and an 8-4 Clipper advantage.

But the Jaguars responded with a basket and a steal that resulted in a three pointer to pull ahead by a point.

With a three, Karels got the lead back, but the Jaguars put in a backdoor bucket to knot the game at 11 and then hit a layup to go in front by two.

Mason Kluntz grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with a minute left for the tie.

The Jags came out with the first 10 points of the second half. Kluntz spun in a basket to break up the run. Later, Bartell took a Kluntz pass in for a bucket, but the Jags responded with a three for a 28-17 advantage.

Bartell drove for the last Clipper basket. The Jaguars hit two baskets from the floor after that.

With eight points, Bartell led the Clipper effort. Karels contributed five points. Kluntz had four points, and Johnson chipped in a basket.

Bartell and Karels each dropped in a three. The Clippers made one of their five foul shots.

The Jaguars put in three threes and were three of seven in free throw shooting.
