Delaney Thompson drive

Although they were a notch sharper than during their previous outing, the B girls fell 56-27 to host Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Tuesday.

It didn’t help their cause when starter Mollie Bowman left the game with an injury soon after the jump ball and did not return.

Breaking up a 14-point run, the Clippers finally got on the board at the 6:40 mark when Delaney Thompson (above) steered down the baseline and tossed in a bucket. Taking a Taylor McCabe handoff, Thompson struck twice more when she hooked in a basket and then made the first of a pair of free shots for a 5-point run.

Later, Sam Wondra put in a jumper from just in front of the arc, but the Knights were still up 20-7. As the half wound down, Addi Holden plunked in a three-point basket, and Thompson made both shots on a trip to the foul line, but the Clippers lagged 28-12 at the break.

Lacey McCabe came off the bench in the second half and drove inside for the first basket. Thompson made a path through the paint for another Clipper bucket, but the Knights surged for the next 13 points and a 43-16 advantage.

Breaking up the run, Lacey McCabe battered her way to the net for a basket. Soon after, Thompson made a free shot, and Lacey McCabe struck again when she spun a pass from her sister in for a bucket.

Holden stole and cruised down the floor for a layup and Lacey McCabe scored from under the net twice to account for the rest of the Clippers’ second-half points.

Thompson and Lacey McCabe each provided 10 points. Holden have five points, including the Clippers’ only three. Wondra had two points.

The Clippers made four of 10 foul shots. The Knights also made one three and were seven of 11 in free throw shooting.

The B girls return to competition tonight (Friday) when take on host Mankato Loyola.
