Dear families, students, and community members,
It’s been a busy time at Cleveland. Since the completion of our new school building, we have been growing as a student body with three new K-2 classes in our elementary school. We’ve added new staff to accommodate this growth and better serve all our students, including three new elementary teachers, a music teacher to reinstate an elementary-level music program, an assistant to the nurse, and a school counselor to help with the impact of the pandemic as well as other students mental health and learning needs.
We have been utilizing the new school and classroom spaces and focusing on implementing new programming including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Elementary music, and Ag classes operating out of our new greenhouse. As a result, some exciting learning is taking place at Cleveland. From elementary basics to advanced courses to athletics, extracurriculars, and everything in between, our students are learning the skills they need to lead and compete after graduation.
Look for a few highlights in a new quarterly mailing coming to your mailbox this month. It’s designed to keep you informed about school happenings and will feature different examples each time of some of the good stuff happening at Cleveland School.
Also in the mailer, our school board chairman, Scott Miller, provides an update from the board on the state of the school district budget. He reviews the recent impacts of Covid and inflation and an increase in student mental health needs. The board is reevaluating our finances and may choose to invite community members to get involved in the coming months.
Look to my blog and these periodic mailings to keep you informed and up-to-date on the state of our school. And as always, feel free to contact me with any comments, questions, or concerns you may have.
In partnership,
Mr. Brian J. Phillips,
Superintendent Cleveland Public School ISD #391
